Social food ordering app Gobble received US $1.3 M seed funding

‘Gobble,’ a social meal ordering website, has secured $1.3 million in a seed round headed by Beenext and Flash Ventures.

Warren Tseng (former RGM, Uber APAC), Siddharth Shanker (former General Manager at Deliveroo Singapore), and Abhishek Sahay are among the notable angel investors that have funded Gobble in this round (Regional Director, Foodpanda).

Gobble plans to utilise the funding to develop its tech and product teams and spread its platform across campuses.

Ashwin Purushottam (Founder and CEO) and Domenico Tan launched the company in 2021. (Co-Founder and COO). Purushottam formerly worked at Deliveroo as General Manager (Special Projects), while Tan previously worked at Travis Kalanik’s CloudKitchens before co-founding Gobble.

Gobble is a website for group ordering and meal giving. Food Feed, a feature that enables customers to see and order what their friends purchased instead of scrolling endlessly through delivery apps, is one of the app’s standout features. It also allows the user to send food with a humorous note to anyone. Furthermore, the app allows students to host a “Gobble Party” and invite their friends to buy reduced meals in bulk.

“Through Gobble, we are building APAC’s first social food ordering platform built around food and friends. We benefit not only the end-users but also our restaurant partners through group orders,” said CEO Purushottam.

Dirk van Quaquebeke, the Managing Partner at Beenext, said: “Gobble is addressing a unique market opportunity. By using highly scalable technology, Gobble will bring millions together through food. We are thrilled to partner with the team on their journey to grow and expand to new markets.”

Lorenzo Franzi, Founding Partner, Flash Ventures, added: “The team is bringing a very human and local angle to food ordering and gifting while offering a completely new experience compared to the existing food platforms.”

In a poll of roughly 100 students from NTU, NUS, and SMU, the Gobble team discovered that 96% of them have already given food to friends.

Southeast Asia’s social-food ordering business is anticipated to reach $4.5 billion by 2025.
