Alpha JWC led $2 M Seed funding received by Beleaf
An initial seed investment round headed by Alpha JWC Ventures saw $2 million received for the Indonesian agritech company Beleaf. Sembrani Nusantara Fund, which is run by BRI Ventures, and Arise, a joint fund from MDI Ventures and Finch Capital, also participated in the round.
Amrit Lakhiani established Beleaf in 2019 as a company that sold produce grown in hydroponic farming systems.
Through supermarkets and online shopping sites, it offers products such as leafy greens and melons directly to restaurants as well as to consumers.
Additionally, the company has created an operating system that links IoT devices with data collecting, logistics, and scheduling tasks on a farm to increase yields and harvest quality.
14 farms with a combined size of more than 80 hectares in West Java are now served by Beleaf. Over 70 tons of fresh vegetables are produced each month by these farms.
With the additional cash, the business intends to enhance its product, recruit more people, and establish more R&D farms in West Java. It also plans to introduce Seikat, a new brand that would cater to mass-market consumers.
Beleaf now employs 60 people, the majority of whom are involved in the company’s agricultural and technology divisions.
