Singapore-based SquareX raised $20 M Series A funding from SYN Ventures

The $20 million Series A funding round for Singapore-based cybersecurity startup SquareX was closed by SYN Ventures, a cybersecurity-focused venture capital firm.

According to a statement released by SquareX last Thursday, current investor Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital SEA) also participated in the funding.

The browser has emerged as a major target for cyberattacks, resulting in a serious weakness in enterprise security, the statement claims. While proprietary enterprise browsers can cause friction and impede user productivity and adoption, traditional security tools do not provide visibility into browser threats.

The first Browser Detection and Response (BDR) solution in the industry, SquareX’s browser extension turns any browser into a secure enterprise-grade browser, offering all the features of dedicated enterprise browsers plus more without the hassle of change management.

This innovative method transforms browser security by giving businesses the ability to handle threats like phishing, malicious extensions, insider threats, generative artificial intelligence (genAI) data leaks, and more directly within the browser environment. This greatly lowers the enterprise attack surface without sacrificing user experience.

“The browser is the new endpoint, yet it remains a major blind spot for most organizations. Existing solutions often force a trade-off between security and usability,” said Vivek Ramachandran, Chief Executive Officer of SquareX.

“We built SquareX to eliminate this compromise in browser security, offering robust protection that works with the browsers users are already familiar with,

“This Series A funding, led by the team at SYN Ventures, validates our vision of everyone being able to be online without fear,” he added.

According to Jay Leek, Managing Partner and SYN Ventures Founder, SquareX is addressing one of the most important and neglected cybersecurity domains at the moment.

“The browser is ground zero for countless attacks, and the team at SquareX has developed an elegant and powerful solution that provides critical visibility and control where it’s needed most – directly within the native browser experience,” he added.

Having worked with SquareX since their seed stage, Shailendra Singh, Managing Director of Peak XV, stated that he has been impressed by their vision and execution in addressing browser security issues.

“We are excited to partner with them again again as they demonstrate strong results in delivering much-needed cybersecurity capabilities to enterprise customers,” he added.

As the forerunner of Browser Detection and Response (BDR), SquareX enables enterprises to efficiently threat-hunt, detect, and mitigate client-side web attacks.

The company offers vital defense against sophisticated spearphishing, browser-native ransomware, malicious browser extensions, genAI DLP, and other browser security threats through a straightforward browser extension.
