Google to invest $10 bn in data centre cluster in Visakhapatnam

By spending $10 billion to construct a new data center cluster in and around Visakhapatnam, Google intends to make a significant push in India.
The project will have a 1-gigawatt total power capacity and include three campuses in neighboring villages like Adavivaram, Tarluvada, and Rambilli.
Three submarine cables, cable landing stations, and the deployment of high-capacity fiber and telecom networks are important infrastructure steps. By July 2028, Google hopes to have these centers fully operational.
When top Google executives and Andhra Pradesh’s IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh meet in New Delhi on October 14, the agreement is anticipated to be finalized.
This is probably going to be Google’s biggest direct investment in India’s digital infrastructure to date. Google and the Andhra Pradesh government had previously inked a memorandum of understanding in December 2024, shortly after the state’s leadership changed.
To facilitate the advancement of such massive digital projects, the state government is also working to change data-related laws and regulations. India’s first AI Infrastructure Hub, a region designed to concentrate state-of-the-art digital infrastructure, will include Visakhapatnam’s data center cluster.
The goal is to accelerate the development of advanced research, artificial intelligence, and related technologies in Andhra Pradesh and throughout India. Currently, Google has data centers in 11 other nations, but India does not yet have a cluster of this size.
