India emerges as a key player globally in space industry
In a significant acknowledgment in the field of space technology, the world has taken notice of the country’s achievements, attributed largely to the rise of the space-tech startups.
Speaking at the inaugural session of G20’s fourth edition of Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM), on 6th July, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Jitendra Singh, highlighted this development, emphasizing India’s emergence as a key player in the global space industry.
Jitendra Singh commented on the rise of space-tech, and he said, “India and the US, following Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s recent visit to America, have agreed to collaborate on space related activities. As a result, India will participate in the US-led Artemis programme for exploration of the moon and other celestial objects. The pact will pave the way for easing restrictions on import of critical technologies in the space domain.”
Singh further added, “The future development of humanity lies in our collective ability to responsibly harness, pool resources and utilize space technology towards achieving sustainable development goals and improving the lives of common man. Since space technology integrates various pillars of the economy under one umbrella, the investments made here will have a multiplier effect on overall development of countries and economies.”
