At its Berlin headquarters, Delivery Hero slashes 156 employees

According to an internal email from the company’s CEO, Niklas Stberg, Foodpanda’s owner Delivery Hero has fired 156 workers. The relocation had an impact on its key teams, many of which were situated in Berlin.

In addition to receiving severance payments “beyond statutory standards,” those who are let go will also have access to the Delivery Hero employee support program. In November 2022, the company last let go of an unspecified number of employees.

“Unfortunately, I believe that this decision is necessary to create a leaner and more efficient organization, capable of achieving the ambitious goals that we have set for ourselves in 2023,” Östberg wrote.

The meal delivery company employs more than 50,000 people worldwide and has a presence in more than 70 countries. According to its website, it surpassed 11.5 billion euros ($12.5 billion) in gross merchandise value in the third quarter of last year, representing a 12% year-over-year gain.

Nevertheless, 250 people, or 6.5% of Glovo’s staff, were let go a few days ago, according to Reuters. Glovo is located in Spain and was bought by Delivery Hero last year. The majority of people impacted were not front-line workers and were based in Barcelona. In September 2022, Foodpanda also carried out a wave of layoffs.

Woowa Brothers is another brand that Delivery Hero runs in South Korea and Vietnam.
