HK dev platform GitStart backed by Microsoft, Google execs with $5 M funding
GitStart, a software engineering service provider based in the United States and Hong Kong, has secured $5 million in a seed round headed by Neo, with participation from Microsoft tech chief Kevin Scott and Google vice president Parisa Tabriz.
The company intends to hire 50 people for its headquarters, as well as “thousands” of engineers around Asia, with a concentration on Nepal, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Gitstart employs young software engineers to assist clients in need of technical assistance. It offers a peer-review mechanism that helps engineers better their work and allows them to submit codes to their employers faster.
Routing all communication through the platform, it also eliminates interpersonal friction between clients and engineers. The bot works through code tasks, removing cultural, accent, and discriminatory barriers between the two parties.
The platform was created in 2019 by Hamza Zia, a former Microsoft software developer.
“When I started recruiting for my team as a staff engineer, I quickly realized there were millions of talented engineers around the world, but we couldn’t hire them because – like me – they were born in the wrong country. GitStart is changing that,” said Zia.
